Lap Blankets for Seniors

Interfaith sent me a bulletin the other day. You may have gotten one too. They, of course, have an ongoing need for food donations, but they also mentioned that they’re taking new, single-bed blankets and lap blankets to folks at the nursing homes during the holiday season.

Lap blankets are extremely easy to make, even if you have just rudimentary sewing skills. I used to make them for elderly relatives, and it was kind of fun to do. If you put a little pocket on each side, that’s always a big hit because they can put a tissue or a TV remote or whatever, in the pocket and have it handy. A yard of wide quilted fabric and some seam binding is all it takes to make a comfy little “lap robe” as some people call them. Easy enough to do — if you can find the time.
