A Community Garden – Veggie Village

The Township Board of Directors has approved setting aside a section of land in the Alden Bridge Sports Park for the Veggie Village community donation garden. It seems this has been in the works for two years and has finally come to fruition, no pun intended.

Community gardens are a growing trend, (another pun, sorry), and there are several in nearby communities, including Kingwood and Montgomery. The produce from our garden is intended for the Interfaith Food Pantry, where fresh produce has always been scarce.

Volunteers will be needed in many areas, including making compost for the garden; serving on work teams; transporting the food; maintaining the site; finance and fund-raising, and so on.

If you think you’d like to help, there will be a meeting on Wednesday evening, January 26th at 7:30 p.m., and again on Monday, January 31st at 1:00 p.m. at Interfaith of The Woodlands, 4642 Interfaith Way. If you’re interested in helping but cannot attend either meeting, you can call Kathy Rifaat at 832-615-8208 or email her at krifaat@woodlandsinterfaith.org for more information.

This will be a great way to learn some useful gardening tips, no doubt, so it should be interesting. Lots of folks with great gardening expertise and enthusiasm will be involved, and it certainly is for a worthy cause.
