It’s that day for all those warm and fuzzy feelings about one another, and not just for lovers. Valentine’s Day seems to have evolved, or maybe it’s just me. Early last week, I sent off a batch of Valentine’s cards to my old friends back in Tennessee, and even one to Don in Oklahoma. I’m sure many of you sent out cards too. It’s just a nice way to say hello, and it’s the perfect occasion to let someone know that they’re thought of often — loved, but not in a romantic sense.
While we’re on the subject of love, there was a nice article in the paper yesterday about remembering your first crush on a singer or a celebrity of some sort. It took me a while, but I finally recalled my first and perhaps only girl-crush on a singer, and that was Ricky Nelson. I guess it was the Ozzie and Harriet show on TV that got it started. Ricky and his brother David were so sweet and funny, and then when Ricky got a little older and started singing, well… I was swooning just like my friends. I thought he was just wonderful! My mother wouldn’t let me put any pictures on the wall, but I certainly had all of his records and the photos in those teen magazines, none of which I can recall the name of at the moment. Wonder what I did with all those pictures? Lost in the shuffle, I guess.
Do you remember your first teenaged crush on a celebrity? Come on, guys, I know you had them too. It may require some mental excavation to go back that far, but when you finally do unearth that feeling of excitement and fascination, it will bring on the warm and fuzzy feelings for you too, and that’s not a bad thing at all, especially today. Happy Velentine’s Day to all of you.
