We May Have Nine Planets Again– in April

Remember when the powers-that-be declared that Pluto was no longer a planet? (It was a move that Jim took rather personally, for some reason. He got all pouty about it, as I recall.) Well, they haven’t changed their minds. Poor old Pluto is still a planetesimal, whatever that is, but a couple of astronomers are pretty sure they’ve found a big, gas-giant planet out in the Oort Cloud, and they’ll know for sure in April.

I’ve heard speculation about a tenth planet, (this was before Pluto was demoted), ever since I was a kid. “Planet X,” they used to call it. They’re calling this one “Tyche,” (pronounced ty-kee). Heck, I think I could have come up with a better name than that, but I didn’t discover it, so I don’t get to name it either. But I’m curious to see if it’s really there. I hope so. Having only eight planets just hasn’t seemed right. Nine would be better.
