Since the subject of Charlie Sheen has come up a time or two in conversations with the neighbors lately, and the general consensus has been that Mr. Sheen’s situation has been given entirely too much attention — while good people who are contributing to society in a positive way are generally overlooked. So, with that in mind, today I present to you a some people who are actually newsworthy. First, meet Matt:
Matt’s second grade class made and sold nearly 600 flower pens to raise money for charity. They first had to pay for the supplies they used and then had to decide on a charity. They chose to adopt two animals from the zoo, and the remainder of the money went to the Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch where Matt goes for hippotherapy. The ranch uses horses to help children, teens, and adults with all kinds of special needs. The check to the ranch was for just over $300.00, which will feed the eight horses there for a whole week.
The heroes here are the teacher who taught the children how a business works, and who guided them to give away all that they made, and the children who made and sold so many pens. (Six hundred pens made by a second-grade class! Pretty impressive!)
These are the heroes we should celebrate. Who are the heroes you know…teachers, men and women in the military, someone who takes care of an elderly parent, or friend, volunteers of all sorts. Let’s hear about them!
Matt and his teachers at the ranch.
Thanks to a good neighbor for submitting this story. It just goes to show what one person with a good idea can do. If you know of an unsung hero, please let me hear from you. There are bound to be lots of them out there.
