Texas Wildfire Closes Down McDonald Observatory

A Texas wildfire narrowly missed he McDonald Observatory on Sunday. McDonald Observatory is one of the preeminent astronomical research observatories in the world. Currently, according to the McDonald web site, the observatory is closed due to lack of electricity and phone service as a result of the wildfire. Please check their web site for updates if you plan to visit.

The wildfire, which spread quickly, destroyed 40 homes and more than 60,000 acres in Jeff Davis county. Please see my previous post for a map of Texas counties.
