Texas Wildfires: An Old Man Makes A Stand

Here’s a story reported by CNN, “One man’s stand against Texas’ raging wildfires” by Patrick Oppman, that will remind some of us of the old guy at Spirit Lake on Mount St. Helens who refused to leave when the volcano was about to blow. Remember that guy? I admire this old Texan’s grit, if not his intelligence, in fighting a wildfire surrounding his home for five days. I’ll have to admit, I would have run for my life.

At the bottom of the page, you’ll see some Texas State Troopers opening gates to give cattle an escape route. That touched me.  Like a lot of people, I’ve worried about all of the animals, wild and domestic, that have been affected by the fires. Hard to imagine their terror. You’ll have to read the article. It’s short and goes a long way toward showing how the fires are affecting the people and animals in Texas.
