The National Weather Service has made a preliminary report on the tornado that severely damaged Smithville, Mississippi, upgrading that storm to an EF-5, the highest storm rating. The statistics on this particular tornado are startling. Notice the estimated wind speed. Unfortunately, 14 lives were lost and at least 40 people were injured. There was no safe place for the people of Smithville to go except underground to escape such a storm. Fortunately, storms this strong are rare events, but the people of Smithville were directly in the path of this one. Please remember these people in your thoughts and prayers.
