Photos of Flooded Casinos in Tunica, Mississippi

All of the casinos in Tunica, Mississippi, were closed last week due to the flooding threat. It seems they made the right decision. This is an extraordinary event, to say the least, and a lot of people are out of work because of it. A friend emailed these pictures to me and said they had been circulating, but she didn’t have a credit for them. I also don’t have specific locations for the photos, but if you’ve been there, you probably recognize some of these spots. Even if you’ve never been there, you can see that this is a disaster for the people who work in these places. (Just received the comment that this is Harrah’s.) For a video of the flooding, click here. For updates and more info on the flooding along the river, including the rescue of the “casino dog,” please check out the blog. UPDATE: Three casinos are now open.

Thank you so much. Yes, this is a terrible thing to see, and my heart really goes out to the people who work at all of those casinos. Here’s hoping they’re back in business soon.

Harrahs is where we always stay when we visit tunica. I pray that the flood waters subside and they all (casinos, employees and residents) can get back to normal as soon as possible. We wanna come back soon!

The economy was already slowing things down in Tunica and now this! I do wonder if some of the casinos will re-open anymore? With Arkansas and Tennessee having a lottery I do wonder if the glory days of Tunica is gone with the water? Mississippi needs to consider a lottery because this will be VERY costly in the long run.

It’s hard to keep a positive attitude at a time like this, but we need to try. People are very interested in what is going on in the casinos right now, and not just local people. The response from the pictures of the flooded casinos has been amazing. If nothing else, I think that when they re-open, people will be dashing down there to see them again.
Also, buying a lottery ticket is not nearly as much fun as the casino experience. Add food, entertainment, and a place to stay, and it’s a vacation. The economy is picking up — slowly, but things are getting better. It’s just super-difficult for the people out of work, for who knows how long? As the recovery begins, please keep me posted, especially if you have pictures, and I’ll get the word out there. I think people will be eager to get back to Tunica. Thank you for your comment.

Thankfully the casinos are built on barges and should rise with the water levels, but
the hotels are a different story. They will surely recieve flood damage on the 1st floor
and basement levels.Let’s hope for a rapid recovery,it’s my only place to go and get
    the f**k out of Alabama.

Thank you for posting pictures of the casinos. I have been
worried. I love Harrahs and saw Adam Lambert in concert
there in Sept. I agree, the lottery tickets don’t replace the
atmosphere, concerts, food, and lodging of the casinos.

Let’s hope they’re all back in business soon. So many people need to get back to work! Thank you for taking the time to write. Lots of people are worried that people won’t come back to Tunica.

This breaks my heart. We love tunica. God be with you all, and we hope we will see all the casino’s open back up.

  11. jack myers says:

my wife and I fly into tunica about every two there any videos of the tunica airport?

    • M.J.Deare says:

I’ll check, and I’ll also email my friend there and ask about the airport. Check back later today. Thanks!

    • M.J.Deare says:

So far, I haven’t been able to find any information, other than “all flights are cancelled.” Even my friend who lives in the area does not know if the airport is flooded or not. I’ll keep digging, however.
