Memphis Residents Warned to Leave: Video

The video below from the Associated Press might lead you to believe that everyone in Memphis, Tennessee, is advised to evacuate, but that really isn’t the case. The greatest threat is to those who live near the Mississippi River and those who live close to the Wolf River and Nonconnah Creek. The Wolf and Nonconnah normally drain into the Mississippi, but that isn’t happening now that the river is at flood stage. We’ll see this happen with all of the rivers and streams that drain into the Mississippi as the flooding heads downstream toward the Gulf of Mexico. Too bad there aren’t more spillways along the river.

The large pyramid you’ll see in the background is a former basketball arena and performance venue. It has been replaced by FedEx Forum. Bass Pro Shop is in negotiations to purchase the pyramid. It is not occupied at present. For more mid-south flood photos, videos, and information, including the casinos in Tunica, Mississippi, please check previous posts on this blog.
