Texas Wildfires: Special Weather Statement Issued

This could be an especially dangerous day, especially for those in the northern parts of southeast Texas. Please see below and remember to be careful out there. I’ve heard people say that they’re still seeing folks throw cigarette butts out of their car windows. Think, people!

Here is the special weather advisory for today:

             ...ELEVATED FIRE DANGER TODAY...

ANOTHER HOT DAY IS EXPECTED WITH UPPER LEVEL RIDGING PARKED OVER SOUTH
TEXAS. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 103 TO 106 DEGREES OVER
THE NORTHERN HALF OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS THIS AFTERNOON. STRONG WINDS
ALOFT WILL MIX TO THE SURFACE THIS AFTERNOON AND SOUTH TO
SOUTHWEST SURFACE WINDS WILL INCREASE TO AROUND 15 MPH WITH GUSTS
OCCASIONALLY PEAKING NEAR 25 MPH. IN ADDITION...THE STRONG MIXING
WILL REDUCE AFTERNOON RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES TO LESS THAN 15
PERCENT IN A FEW LOCATIONS.

EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT CONDITIONS CONTINUE TO GRIP THE STATE AND MANY
OF THE COUNTIES THAT COMPRISE SOUTHEAST TEXAS HAVE KBDI VALUES
EXCEEDING 775. EXCEPTIONALLY DRY GROUND FUELS COUPLED WITH THE
CRITICALLY LOW HUMIDITY LEVELS AND THE EXPECTED INCREASE IN WINDS
WILL PRODUCE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TODAY...ESPECIALLY
OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS.

ACTIVITIES THAT COULD INADVERTENTLY CAUSE WILDFIRES. AVOID AVOID
PARKING VEHICLES IN THE DRY GRASS AND WEEDS...THE USE OF WELDING OR

How are people still flicking cigarette butts into this kind of dry grass? Are they trying to start a fire or something? Yeesh. Hope people get smarter about this stuff or they’ll be battling more fires than they have to, really.
