...ELEVATED FIRE DANGER TODAY... ANOTHER HOT DAY IS EXPECTED WITH UPPER LEVEL RIDGING PARKED OVER SOUTH TEXAS. HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL RANGE FROM 103 TO 106 DEGREES OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS THIS AFTERNOON. STRONG WINDS ALOFT WILL MIX TO THE SURFACE THIS AFTERNOON AND SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST SURFACE WINDS WILL INCREASE TO AROUND 15 MPH WITH GUSTS OCCASIONALLY PEAKING NEAR 25 MPH. IN ADDITION...THE STRONG MIXING WILL REDUCE AFTERNOON RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES TO LESS THAN 15 PERCENT IN A FEW LOCATIONS. EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT CONDITIONS CONTINUE TO GRIP THE STATE AND MANY OF THE COUNTIES THAT COMPRISE SOUTHEAST TEXAS HAVE KBDI VALUES EXCEEDING 775. EXCEPTIONALLY DRY GROUND FUELS COUPLED WITH THE CRITICALLY LOW HUMIDITY LEVELS AND THE EXPECTED INCREASE IN WINDS WILL PRODUCE CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TODAY...ESPECIALLY OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS. RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO EXERCISE CARE WITH RESPECT TO ALL OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES THAT COULD INADVERTENTLY CAUSE WILDFIRES. AVOID AVOID PARKING VEHICLES IN THE DRY GRASS AND WEEDS...THE USE OF WELDING OR GRINDING EQUIPMENT NEAR GRASS AND DRY BRUSH...AND IF GRILLING BE SURE TO KEEP THE GRILL ON A NON-FLAMMABLE PAD AND AWAY FROM GRASS OR SHRUBS THAT COULD BE IGNITED. DO NOT TOSS CIGARETTE BUTTS ON THE GROUND. REPORT WILDFIRES QUICKLY TO THE NEAREST FIRE DEPARTMENT OR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICE.
