Texas Drought: Dog rescued from a crack in the ground-video

Don’t worry, this video has a swift and happy ending. A newly-acquired puppy slipped and fell into a crack in the ground in the owner’s yard and had to be rescued by some workers for the Garland Animal Control Services. Garland is a suburb of Dallas, Texas. For more details see this Chron blog entry.

It’s great that they were able to rescue the puppy, but the thing that caught my interest about this situation is the size of the crack! Holy cow! I thought the ground was dry in Houston, but I haven’t seen any cracks in the earth around here to compare to this one. Maybe the homeowners need to worry about losing one of their kids down this thing. Is there a total ban on outdoor watering in Garland? Just wondering. Here’s the video for you.
